The City of Biloxi was settled in 1699 and much has happened since then. Every year there are more things to see and experience in Biloxi. Biloxi is part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast so our list of 52 things to do in
Biloxi does not include any of the many dozens of things to do in other Mississippi Gulf Coast communities. We have focused on Biloxi because of the sheer number of activities you can become involved in.
Just listing all of the venues would by itself express how impressive Biloxi is. I want to tell you from my own experience. At least three times each week, I find myself in Biloxi, as I live not far from Ocean Springs. Some of my favorite restaurants are in Biloxi as are my favorite casinos and other things to do.
My wife and I love to sit by the water and eat
My wife and I love to sit by the water and eat so we do this at McElroy’s restaurant which is elevated over the marina. A great view of boats coming and going.
I was just thinking that I did not add eating by the water as a thing to do yet it is. If you are visiting for a few days, you need to plan ahead for some of the items on the list. For example, you can see the Hurricane Hunters at Keesler AFB only if you register in advance. If you want to see a Mardi Gras parade, come in January or February. There are multiple seafood festivals so plan ahead to attend those.
Fishing is available all year but some fish are more plentiful at various times of the year. One of the fun things is catching flounder by using a pointed stick and snatching them in water nearly over your ankles. During periods when it’s windy at the beach, you can windsurf.
Try out Beauvoir, house and museum
Try out one or more of the many museums such as the Model Railroad Museum. If you have access to a kitchen, stop by the marina and buy fresh shrimp from the boats as they come in.
One of the key things to do is spend some time at Beauvoir, the Jefferson Davis House, and the museum. It’s a fascinating thing to do. Walk around the Confederate cemetery on the grounds and see a single War of Independence grave. Biloxi Mississippi truly has a lot to offer. Much of the activities occur on or near Beach Blvd which is U.S. Highway 90.
The beach of course is a key draw. There are multiple beaches. Starting with the beach between the Hard Rock Casino and Harrahs Casino, this is where many of the events such as July 4th happen. You can see Deer Island almost a stone’s throw away. Anyone can go to Deer Island, it’s open to the public with great fishing on the South side of the island.
The main beach is West of the Beau Rivage Casino
Drive or walk further West, past the Beau Rivage and you arrive at the main beach which stretches all the way to Pass Christian. This beach is open 24/7 and adult beverages are permitted in other than glass containers. There are fire pits available. At various points along the beach, you can rent chairs and beach toys including jet skis. Did I mention that the white sand beaches are the cleanest I have ever seen?
I frequently see the county employees using their equipment to sift the sand and remove debris. The water is usually warm except for the winter months and it is shallow. It’s great for small children as the water is so shallow you can walk out dozens of yards before it gets to your waste. I do not know of any shark attacks ever taking place on a Mississippi Gulf Coast beach or in the Biloxi area.
Dining out
Dining out is a favorite pastime for many. When you dine out in Biloxi, you have choices of fresh seafood, particularly oysters. Mary Mahoney’s Old French House is the oldest building and restaurant on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
You will have the best time eating at one of the several restaurants located on the beach and harbor. If you are visiting and staying at a vacation rental with a kitchen, it’s a good idea to pick up some freshly caught shrimp right from the captain in the marina.
Biloxi is the best place to try your luck at one of the several casinos listed above. Â Biloxi is also the perfect place to catch fish. Â Many varieties can be caught from one of the free fishing piers or even the beach. Â Anytime is the perfect time to visit Biloxi.
Staying in Biloxi
There are so many choices. You can rent a vacation rental right on the beach from Christies Gulf Beach Rentals or you can stay at a casino hotel. Most of the big chain hotels are represented along U.S. 90, Beach Blvd. There are motels and RV parks all around the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
If you come during a festival such as Mardi Gras, book in advance. Space is available all year in Biloxi but limited during events as mentioned particularly Cruisin the Coast.
The list above contains things to do and places to see in Biloxi but there are many other great communities in coastal Mississippi. You would need several months to see everything in Biloxi and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
